Pottery Foundation – 5 Week Course
Go beyond a one-off experience with our 5-week pottery course designed for complete beginners. You’ll learn from the ground up – starting with wedging clay, then exploring hand-building, wheel throwing, and decorative techniques like slip trailing, sgraffito and carving.
What’s The Difference?
- Unlike our taster class, this course gives you the time to build real skills, practice more on the wheel, and progress week by week with the same instructor guiding you throughout.
- At the end, choose up to 5 of your favourite pieces to be kiln-fired, with the option to include more for a small additional fee. A perfect way to slow down, get creative, and make something truly yours.

- Price: £260 per person
- Including 2.5hr weekly courses for five weeks and 5 pottery pieces to fire.

Course Structure
- Week 1: Clay Foundations & Hand-building
– Learn how to wedge and prepare clay
– Introduction to slab building and coiling
– Create your first handmade forms - Week 2: Wheel Throwing: The Cylinder
– Learn to center clay on the wheel
– Throw your first cylinders
– Build confidence with wheel techniques - Week 3: Trimming & Refinement
– Refine your pieces through trimming
– Shape, balance, and add finishing details - Week 4: Surface Decoration
– Explore sgraffito and carving
– Experiment with slip trailing
– Develop your own decorative style - Week 5: Colour & Finishing
– Apply slip colours to your work
– Or continue practicing your favourite technique
– Finalise pieces for firing
Your Finished Piece
At the end of the course, you will take home ceramic you’re truly proud of:
– Select your best 5 pieces to be professionally glazed and fired
– Additional pieces can be fired for £5–£10 per piece (depending on size).
– Final pieces are limited to our studio size guidelines to ensure safe firing.
Studio Guidelines
- Clay is provided each session for your projects-
- We encourage mindful use of materials
- Our team will guide you for best results
- Finished work will be kept for a limited time after completion
- Unfired work will be reclaimed in line with our studio recycling process.
Cancellation Policy
1. Provider Cancellation
– We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a course if the minimum number of participants is not met or due to circumstances beyond our control.
If we cancel the course, participants will be notified at least 7 days prior to the scheduled start date and will be offered either a full refund or the option to transfer to a future course.
2. Participant Cancellation
– Cancellations made more than 14 days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
Cancellations made within 7 days of the course start date are non-refundable.
3. Attendance & Commitment
– This is a 5-week weekly course, and your booking secures a place for the full duration. By enrolling, participants commit to attending all scheduled sessions.
Missed classes cannot be refunded, rescheduled, or transferred to another date under any circumstances.
